Have you ever tried to seesaw by yourself? It’s pretty unproductive doesn’t it? This is exactly what your body feels like when your estrogen and
testosterone levels are off balance.
The thought is that “estrogen is for women and testosterone is for men”. For the most part this statement is correct however amounts of estrogen
are present in all men and small amounts of testosterone are found in women. In men, estradiol is the main biologically estrogen hormone found
in the body. It plays a part in the regulation of testosterone, several brain functions, bone and skin health, cardiovascular function, sexual
function/libido, and cholesterol level regulation.
As men age they tend to make increasing levels of estrogen while making lower levels of testosterone. Another reason men produce higher levels of estrogen to testosterone is due to a loss of lean muscle mass vs. fat tissue in the body. These specific imbalances can cause men to exhibit symptoms such as:
- Sexual dysfunction
- Enlarged breasts
- Increased abdominal fat (can also be a symptom of low estrogen)
- Feeling tired
- Loss of muscle mass
- Emotional disturbances, especially depression
- Type 2 diabetes
At Epoch Health we regularly monitor your estrogen levels and discuss with you weekly any symptoms you may be feeling associated with high or low
levels of estrogen. From there we’ll help to determine the best pathway possible to ensure you feel like yourself again!
